Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) has said the ‘Made in India’ Jimny five-door was unveiled in Japan on Thursday. The model is exclusively manufactured at the company’s manufacturing facility in Gurugram, Haryana. This iconic model was first showcased in Auto Expo 2023 and is the second most exported model from MSIL in fiscal year (FY) 2024-25, MSIL said.
The introduction of this four-wheel-drive (4WD) sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Japan marks an important step in MSIL’s export journey. It becomes the second SUV after Fronx to be supplied to Suzuki Motor Corporation’s home market in FY2024-25, it said.
“After its resounding success in markets like Mexico, Australia, and South Africa, we are confident that it will delight customers in Japan. The export of Jimny reaffirms our commitment towards ‘Make-in-India for the world’,” Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of MSIL, said.

The Jimny has over half a century of heritage and is a popular model worldwide. Suzuki has sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide in 199 countries and regions. The three-door version of Jimny was already in sale in the Japanese market, he informed.
The five-door version will further increase the model’s popularity. With India as a production base for the Jimny five-door, Suzuki aims to leverage Maruti Suzuki’s global production stature to meet the growing demand for the iconic off-roader brand, Takeuchi added.
MSIL shipped over 3.23 lakh vehicles to around 100 countries in CY2024. The company has a 43.5 per cent share of India’s total passenger vehicle exports in CY2024.
