BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 31. Mehriban Aliyeva,
First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and President of
the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, visited the Thalassemia Center
accompanied by family members, Trend reports.
Minister of Health Teymur Musayev briefed the First
Vice-President and her family on the facilities available at the
center.
Mehriban Aliyeva toured the transplant department, the newly
opened intensive care unit, and the inpatient department for
adults, interacting with children receiving treatment and medical
staff to inquire about their progress.
The First Vice-President was informed that the Thalassemia
Center plays a vital role in treating those affected by the disease
and provides significant moral support to patients and their
families.
Mehriban Aliyeva emphasized that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation
has consistently prioritized the center’s activities and healthcare
in general.
Established in 2009, the Thalassemia Center aims to create a
specialized medical institution and blood bank in Azerbaijan,
develop voluntary donor services to ensure safe and quality blood
for children suffering from thalassemia, raise public awareness to
prevent the disease’s spread, and expand cooperation with various
countries in combating thalassemia.
