McLaren’s Lando Norris clinched victory at the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday, seizing the moment as luck swung in his favour to secure his inaugural Formula One triumph. The young Briton successfully fended off the relentless pursuit of Red Bull’s triple world champion, Max Verstappen, in a thrilling race.
Norris, who had endured the frustration of the most podium finishes without a win (15), finally broke the jinx by emerging triumphant after finishing second on eight occasions across 110 grand prix events.
Verstappen appeared poised to continue his dominance with a potential fifth win in six races. However, a pivotal crash midway through the race altered the course of events, providing McLaren with a golden opportunity to capitalize during a safety car period. Norris strategically pitted and re-emerged in the lead, leaving his Dutch rival trailing in his wake.
Despite Verstappen’s relentless pursuit, Norris maintained his composure, skillfully navigating his McLaren to victory as the Red Bull failed to mount a significant challenge.
Securing his place on the podium, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc claimed third position, with his teammate Carlos Sainz closely following behind, completing an exhilarating race filled with twists and turns.
